If there was ever a classification of the
r most loyal fan-base in technology around, Microsoft’s Windows Phone cult would probably take the lead above all else. These are the people who have stuck with Redmond despite seldom getting any major updates, any exclusive applications and long gulfs between product releases. The latest setback – not all existing Windows Phones will not be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile – isn’t even that much of a surprise.
Remember, this is the same company which got its users stuck in the deep trench that was Windows Phone 7, a few years back, not upgrading to version 8. This means if you were a part of the bugged up Insider program and had spent months anticipating the next version of Windows on your phone, your months’ long str
uggle is rendered fruitless.
And it is not like some low-end or mid-range devices are getting left behind, either. Flagship phones of past, including the popular Lumia 920, 935 and 1020 which are arguably still more powerful than present Lumia devices are losing support here, which will be a real bummer for supporters of long who still amount to millions, a key figure for Microsoft.
From Microsoft’s point of view, it is obviously not so intelligent to support a phone from 2012, though, the excuse will likely be as dubious as Samsung’s not upgrading the original Galaxy S to Ice Cream Sandwich. Here is a list of devices which will be upgraded to Windows 10 Mobile, courtesy of The Verge:
Lumia 1520
Lumia 930
Lumia 830
Lumia 730
Lumia 735
Lumia 640
Lumia 640XL
Lumia 635 1GB
Lumia 636 1GB
Lumia 638 1GB
Lumia 540
Lumia 535
Lumia 532
Lumia 435
Lumia 430
Unfortunately, there won’t be a second wave of Windows 10 Mobile upgrades, as we were originally told. Microsoft has repeatedly iterated its promise of providing optimal, balanced experience across the board, especially now with its Universal Windows Platform. However, it is a shame that many people still brought these phones in hoping of more regular updates, especially after the Windows Phone 8 debacle.
It is clear that it is getting harder and harder to support Windows Phone, or Windows 10 Mobile, day after day
